Home to the famous Tour de France summit of Mont Ventoux, Provence has an esteemed place in professional cycling folklore. Yet it is the perfect playground for all levels of cyclist. The meandering roads weave through lavender fields and vineyards, over maquis-cloaked hills and into quaint market towns. Ancient olive groves, medieval architecture and dramatic gorges punctuate the landscape, making this region in Southeast France a wonderful place to explore on two wheels. Out of the saddle, savour the regional cuisine, dominated by the hallowed ingredients of Mediterranean cooking – olive oil, wine, tomatoes and garlic.
We recommend a morning flight to Marseille. After arriving you will be met and transferred to your chosen hotel in either Bedoin or Sault. You will have time to build your bike (or pick up your hire bike) and grab some lunch. In the afternoon you will have time to take a ride through the stunning lavender fields and vineyards.
Day 2: Mount Ventoux
Today we recommend you attempt to climb the Gaint of Provence, Mount Ventoux. there are three routes up the mountain, and you are free to tackle, 1,2 or all 3 routes up to the top, depending on your fitness and the weather. Complete all three routes up to the top in a day and you will enter the legendary club des cinglés du mont-ventoux.
Day 3: Gorge de la Nesque
The route today is a little-known gem in the region. The Gorge de la Nesque is beautiful, and the tiny roads that cling to the limestone valley walls designed for cyclists.
Day 4: Departure day
There is time for one final cafe run, before we transfer you back to the airport. We recommend you get an afternoon or evening flight. If you want to extend this trip, this is possible.
