Short description
Set in the shadow of the snow-covered Rhaetian Alps and nestled in between vertiginous, green hillsides, Lake Como is the most beautiful of Italy’s major lakes. Wend your way along a shoreline littered with magical villages before reaching the heights of Madonna del Ghisallo to visit the church and cycling shrine and Muro di Sormano, one of the toughest climbs in Italy. Staying in Como, Bellagio or Varenna, enjoy relaxed evening’s overlooking Lake Como with a well deserved local glass of wine in hand.
The itinerary
Day 1: Arrive to Lake Como
We recommend a morning flight. After arriving you will be met and transferred to your chosen hotel on Lake Como. You will have time to build your bike (or pick up your hire bike) and grab some lunch. In the afternoon you will have time for a warm-up ride.
Day 2: Take on the Muro di Sormano and ll Ghisallo
Todays ride, you ride out on quiet country lanes to take on the Muro di Sormano. This climb is famous for it's inclusion in the Giro di Lombardia. Over 25% in sections and its average of 17% over the 1.7-kilometre climb this climb feels like a wall. Those not satisfied with such short doses of self-harm can also combine the Muro with the nearby and more famous Il Ghisallo. Make sure to stop at the museum at the top.
Day 3: Lago di Lugano
Today we recommend that you take the boat across Lake Como to the opposite shore. From here you can ride over to Como's smaller cousin, the Lago di Lugano, have some lunch and then return back over the small range of hills to Como.
Day 4: Departure day
There is time for one final cafe run around the lanes near Lake Como, before we transfer you back to the airport. We recommend you get an afternoon or evening flight. If you want to extend this trip, this is possible.
